In many cases, it is at least a little warm outside when you go on a picnic. However, there may be some days when it is going to be extra hot, and you are a little concerned about the best food to eat under these conditions. Here are some options that are healthy and will also help to refresh you during your picnic.
Cold Pasta Salad
On a hot day, there are few things better than a nice cold pasta salad. You definitely don’t want to eat anything that is warm, but you might still want something yummy and filling. With cold pasta salad, you can make it with any pasta you want, from bow-ties to macaroni. You can make up your favorite pasta recipe that will taste good cold, often being made with olive oil instead of a heavy cream-based cheese, some light veggies, and maybe a sprinkling of parmesan cheese or some bacon bits added in. Sandwiches and wraps are another favorite when you are going to be eating outside on a hot day. Try to choose sandwiches that aren’t too hearty, as these tend to be a little heavy for a picnic. So instead of a chicken parmesan roll or an Italian sandwich, instead go for a light veggie sandwich with hummus or cheese spread on the inside, or bring simple peanut butter sandwiches with some honey and banana.

As far as snacks go, you probably don’t want to fill up on meat and cheese snacks, or get loaded with salty chips and fried snacks. Instead, go for a lighter combination like fruit and nuts. This is great for a lot of different dietary lifestyles, plus it is light enough to enjoy even when the sun is blaring down at you. The nuts provide fiber and protein, while the fruit is juicy and refreshing.
If you have the option of keeping food cold in your picnic basket, you can put together some yogurt parfaits. These are good when you want dessert, but it is a little too hot for chocolate and other decadent treats. Yogurt parfait simply layers yogurt with sliced fruit. You can also add more sweetness with some honey if you want.
